How to Get Duplicate Policy Bond

If your original policy bond is lost, damaged, or stolen, follow these steps:

1
File an FIR

Visit nearest police station. File FIR mentioning policy number, SA, and that the bond is lost. Get the FIR copy.

2
Newspaper Advertisement

Publish a notice in a local newspaper about the lost policy bond. Mention policy number, your name, and ask anyone who finds it to contact LIC. Keep the newspaper clipping.

3
Visit LIC Branch

Go to your servicing branch with: FIR copy, newspaper clipping, ID proof (Aadhaar/PAN), and a written request letter for duplicate bond.

4
Submit Indemnity Bond

Execute an indemnity bond on stamp paper (format available at LIC branch). This protects LIC against fraudulent claims using the original bond.

5
Pay Fee

Approximately ₹25-50 duplicate bond fee (varies by SA and branch). Nominal amount.

✓
Receive Duplicate Bond

LIC issues the duplicate bond in approximately 30-45 working days. It will be stamped "DUPLICATE" and is fully valid for all purposes.

Thousands of crores of LIC money lies unclaimed because nominees did not know about the policy. Don't let this happen to your family.

💡 Expert Tip (Haresh Hirapara): In 20+ years, the most heartbreaking cases I've seen are families who didn't know a policy existed. The policyholder died, and crores sat unclaimed. My #1 advice: share a photocopy of every policy bond with your nominee TODAY. Write your agent's phone number on it. Also register on the LIC portal (licindia.in) and share your login credentials with a trusted family member. For duplicate bonds — don't panic if you've lost it. The process is straightforward: FIR → newspaper → branch → 30-45 days. The policy is alive even without the paper — it's in LIC's records. Consult your LIC branch for help.
